I was planning on a DIY blog this week but as Memorial Day approached I found myself really thinking about our country, freedoms and what they mean to not only me personally but to us as a nation. I often wonder if we really know what it means to sacrifice as we are living in a world of me, me and more me!! I shared this week on my Facebook page a little bit about what Memorial Day means to me. I’ve been in a very strange mood for about a week now as I consider my life and what it means. I retired from working outside the home now for about three months and that in itself gives you a lot of time to ponder life as I began working full-time at my business. Sometimes I need encouragement for myself as a woman, wife, mother, grandmother and entrepreneur! I join the groups, follow inspirational people, projects and other entrepreneurs and still at times am left not feeling full-filled. It’s then that I have to slow down and get back to reading Gods Word that brings me back to the place of knowing who I am in Him! It’s so easy to get off at the wrong destination, the wrong stop at the train station and then be left to wonder how I got here? You see, our journeys aren’t really our own. We are called to put others first before our own needs. However, everyone and everything out there tells us to follow our own hearts and if someone gets in your way then get them out of the way and press on no matter who you have to push aside. Even in our Christian walk we will find this. So where is the balance and is there one to be found? Should we forget about having balance and just press on ahead as our military does putting our country first? It’s confusing sometimes and I’m just trying to be honest and transparent.
I want to share a story about something that happened to me on Memorial Day a couple of years ago. To this day it has served as a reminder to me about how easily we can go astray. It was Memorial Day weekend and my husband and I decided to go on a nice long motorcycle ride on our Honda Goldwing. We put our riding clothes on and headed out. At the first stop light that we were at we noticed a long line of motorcycles coming towards us a few blocks away. Instead of waiting for them, as we were turning left, when the light changed green we quickly pulled out to get ahead of the long line of bikes beginning our journey east. We traveled about 30 miles and decided to stop at a meat and produce farm to grab a few items for cooking on the grill later. As we turned off of the main highway, so did the long train of motorcycles from the earlier stop light in our hometown. We looked around and wondered to ourselves what they were doing? Well, come to find out, they had followed our lead thinking we were the head of their group. This happened even though they knew they were going in the wrong direction than had been planned! Now that should tell you something! You had better know who your leader is and where they are heading before you blindly follow!
Our military has a purpose and that is to follow their commanders and carry out their mission. They all have the same goal and that is to keep and protect our freedoms! We should do the same in our lives. There are going to be times when we don’t feel like it. We may want to go in another direction and that is when we need to take a deep breath, exhale and remember what in the world we are doing and why? Do we need to sacrifice sometimes? YES we do! Do we always like it? NO we don’t! Sometimes we need to just put on our big girl pants and suck it up!!! Now that doesn’t mean that we let others walk all over us and live life being miserable. Get to know your leader! You get to know someone by spending time with them. My Pastor once said, and I’ll never forget it, “If you don’t stand for something you will fall for anything!” Think about it.
May God bless you and your family!
